Current River 2004

Once again we did the annual trip to Current River - although this was our second trip for this year. We had 10 people (5 adults, 5 kids) and it was the first trip with the new truck. Unlike the 4th of July trip, this time we had great weather - a little foggy in the mornings, which limited us to only two trips down the river a day, but beautiful and warm after about 10am. Very possibly our last trip to Current River as we hope to move to Texas next year.

Floating down the river on our tubes.

Alexis sharing the ride with Erin after an early mishap led to her not wanting to tube it by herself.

The GMC loaded up with tubes for the trip to the drop-off point - about a mile up the road from the campsite. The five adult tubes are on the roof, and inside we have five kid tubes, a tube for the cooler, a cooler, 5 adults, and 5 kids with life jackets on. Quite impressive to get it all in one trip!

Erin is the eternal kid magnet - in this trip she had Haley and Alexis ride with her, although Alexis rode on my tube once we got to the rapids.

Kris and I enjoying a drink - note the cooler in it's very own cooler-tube!

Kristi enjoying a drink too - we found out afterwards that glass is not allowed on the river. Whoops!

We bribed the kids into racing us, so we could enjoy some peace and quiet for a bit!

The most important item on the trip - the cooler!

About to hit the first set of rapids (off to the right) - where Alexis banged up her knees on the first trip by putting her legs through her tube instead of sitting on top of it. The rapids are very shallow, and everyone has to "butt up" to avoid wearing a rock up their butt!

Ah, Corona!

She's not camera shy!

But this one is!

Erin about to run aground! The current swirls you away from the rocks at the last minute - or you use your feet to kick off.
