On Saturday January 18th, 2003, in the midst of a very cold winter in Central Illinois,
a lucky hundred or so people signed up for the WBNQ/Suzi Davis Travel cruise
aboard the luxurious Carnival Triumph. Leaving at 3am we headed to Chicago by coach, and caught
an ATA 737-800 direct to Miami, which was also having a cold spell; but still warmer than home!
We boarded the Triumph in Miami, and spent the first couple of days at sea. While the first day was overcast, by
the second day the sun came out and we were treated to warm weather from there on out - some of us
even getting pretty sunburnt! We stopped first in San Juan, Puerto Rico and spent an evening in the old
city. Arriving at 5pm and leaving at midnight, it was a quick stop, but a very enjoyable one. The next
day we arrived in St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. We had the whole day here with many tours to choose
from - Erin and I decided on snorkelling at Coki Beach, an Island Tour, and a ride on the tramway to
the lookout in the mountains above the port. After leaving St Thomas, we cruised to St. Maarten where
again we had the whole day, and plenty of tours to choose from. Erin and I decided to do our own thing,
spending the morning shopping along a busy Front St, and one of the highlights of our trip was an afternoon
at Maho Beach, which is only about 50ft from the end of the runway on St Maarten - we got to see several
large planes landing and taking off, while sipping drinks and sunning ourselves at the beach!
Another couple of days cruising saw us back in a cold Miami again - the last night many people spent
below decks as we hit some rough seas! After docking and some anxious moments with coaches not being
allowed into the port because of the congestion, we all finally made it to Fort Lauderdale airport for
a flight on another ATA 737-800 back to frozen Chicago! Below are the photos Erin and I took on the trip -
because there are so many, I have broken them down into the following sections:
*** COMING LATER! Photo's from our APS camera that we need to get developed yet, and copies
of the photos we bought from the on-board photo shop.
